Granite contains high amounts of radon.
False. Granite does contain minute traces of radon, but radon emissions from concrete, cement, and gypsum are much more of a concern. The gas emitted from granite is an unstable gas and breaks down and dissipates in the air quickly.
Granite harbors bacteria.
False. Granite is approved in all food and medical applications. There has been no record of granite harboring bacteria and has had no reports that granite has caused illness. With regular cleaning granite containes far less bacteria than a butcher's block or lamminate materials. You can check these reports at www.hi-tm.com under "publications and reports".
Granite cannot be repaired?
Granite can be refinished and repaired with colored epoxies if chipped or broken.
Granite is hard to maintain.
False. Clean with a non citrius cleanser or a vinegar and water solution. On occasion every five years additional impregnators can be applied for further protection.
